VPM reassures that prompt actions are being taken by authorities

various teams are on standby in several regions across the country for prompt responses and interventions and the National Emergency Operations Command (NEOC) is closely monitoring the situation with regard to the bad weather conditions.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Local Government, Disaster and Risk Management, Dr. Mohammad Anwar Husnoo made this statement today, after he effected a site visit at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) in Port-Louis, this morning.

He was briefed as regards the interventions made by different authorities and was informed of the weather forecast.

VPM Husnoo highlighted the prevailing calm weather is temporary and that the Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS) has forecasted that the weather will further deteriorate as from this afternoon until Thursday morning.

He underscored that various interventions have been made , including: Relocation of ten families residing at Batelage as their houses are under the imminent threat of collapse due to damage caused by the adverse weather conditions.

Similarly, five families residing at Nouvelle-France were relocated to the Sub-Hall of Nouvelle France.The situation at Rivière des Créoles is being closely monitored, with teams already prepositioned and on standby for prompt intervention. The situations at Vallée Pitot and Chitrakoot are also being closely monitored, as both regions are vulnerable to landslides.

The Mauritius Fire Services has made 11 interventions for water accumulation in houses and yards.

Regarding road networks, out of the 11 roads that were impracticable due to debris and water accumulation, the majority have been cleared, to the exception of three. These are: St Denis Bridge at Chamarel, one lane Batelage and one lane of La Marie Road.
